part 2 of father's day weekend

Today, I am going to sum up the rest of our Father's Day weekend. Sunday arrived and we all headed to my parents' house to celebrate Father's day and my grandmother's 88th birthday. The weather wasn't in our favour. The weather went something like this - rain, sunshine, clouds, rain but we still managed to have a great time. The kids spent most of their time throwing rocks into the river, catching their very first fish, and playing hide-and-go-seek. I think daddy enjoyed these activities too, as he was out there with them the whole time.

They also enjoyed spending time with their great-grandmother for her 88th birthday. Over the last several years, this woman has showed incredible strength as she has beat some pretty strong odds. Even while facing extreme illness, she has a smile on her face and can crack a joke.

It was a wonderful day spent with family and of course it wouldn't be complete without a wonderfully delicious feast!
Love this lady.

tall ships

I feel like I continue to repeat myself, but here I go again... I am behind on my posts (along with a list of other things I'm behind on) but I wanted to share our Father's Day weekend with all of you. We headed down on Saturday to enjoy the Tall Ships 1812 Tour as they stopped in historic Brockville. We brought along my in-laws for the day and the kids (and their dad!) could not stop talking all week about going to this festival.

As we arrived, we were greeted by the wonderful farmer's market. Well, if you know our family - we like to eat. The very first stop was to fill our bellies with some scrumptious food. The hubby and I opted for the pad thai and spring rolls and the kiddos opted for the good ol' jumbo hot dogs. After we had our fill of food, we were off to explore the beautiful ships that awaited us.

Everyone had a great time going on the different sized ships, hearing stories about each of them, meeting the crew, and soaking in the beautiful surrounding of the St.Lawrence river.

Brockville provided us with great entertainment for the children as they had a petting zoo, jumping castles, pirate shows, and so much more.

It was the perfect day spent with some wonderful people. If you have the opportunity to catch this tour somewhere near you, please do as you won't be disappointed.
There were so many delicious treats available at the farmer's market.
Little Miss L. was so excited to have this pirate serve up her lunch.

28 weeks

How far along?: 28 weeks
How big is baby?: By this week, baby weighs 2 1/4 pounds (about the size of a large eggplant) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of his head to his heels.
Weight gain?: I wasn't kidding when I said I feel huge this pregnancy because as I found out on Tuesday I have gained 19 pounds!!
Stretch marks?: Lathering up to keep those bad boys away.
Maternity clothes?: Living in skirts and loose fitting clothing.
Food cravings?: I have a new found love for muffins. I never really cared for them before but they are my craving of the week.
Sleep?:  Enjoying the sleep I am getting right now. I have been able to make it a few nights in a row without a bathroom break.
Gender?: A son.
Exercise?: Lacking in this department as the weather has been extremely humid. I don't want to leave the house.
What's been going on? YIPPEE, I have reached the home stretch - I have hit the third trimester!!! The first half of this pregnancy dragged on but the last few weeks have been flying by. Baby is definitely growing, as I am getting huge! Went to my OB appointment on Tuesday morning and everything is looking good. Let's all jump for joy as I received my results from the dreaded glucose test and I PASSED!!! I was super excited to hear I would not have to endure another one of those awful drinks ever again. Baby's heartbeat was strong and beating away nicely. Baby is very low which is putting a lot of pressure on my uterus making things around here a little uncomfortable these days.

27 weeks

Note: I'm still catching up and week 28 will also be posted this week.

How far along?: 27 weeks
How big is baby?: This week, baby weighs almost 2 pounds (about the size of a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with their legs extended.
Weight gain?: To be honest, I have not checked this week. I will have to wait until my OB appointment next week.
Stretch marks?: Lathering up to keep those bad boys away.
Maternity clothes?: I did give in the other day and head to Old Navy where I purchased a few summer dresses, a skirt and two tank tops. I have to agree these maternity clothes are more comfortable than my everyday wear.
Food cravings?: I have been craving chocolate chip muffins. I satisfied this craving yesterday :)
Sleep?: I can't complain because the last few weeks I have been sleeping the best I have all pregnancy
Gender?: Another male will be joining our household.
Exercise?: Walks and running after the kiddos. I find after a 30 minute walk, I have lots of pressure and don't really want to continue any further.
What's been going on? This week I had my dreaded glucose test. You know, the one where you have to drink that orange goop that doesn't not taste pretty and then wait an hour to be tested. I did not find out my results but likely will hear next week at my regular OB appointment. I have my fingers and toes crossed everything is perfect as I do not want to have to do the two hour glucose test (double yuck). I have been getting leg cramps again. I wake up at night in pain and I jump out of bed screaming to release the tension in my calf. Baby has been busy kicking away and letting me know when he wants some down time. We still have not decided on a name which has been extremely hard this time around.
The look on my face says "OMG, I can't believe I still have another trimester to get through!

26 weeks

This post should have been posted last Tuesday but with momma duties and all the fun stuff in between, I have been behind on my posts. Today is week 27 (I will post tomorrow) but here is a look back at the week before.

How far along?: 26 weeks
How big is baby?: Head to heels, baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches. Their weight — 1 1/2 pounds — isn't much more than an average rutabaga.
Weight gain?: I haven't gained any since last week, maybe because I had such a leap last week.
Stretch marks?: I feel like I have a few creeping up on my under belly :(
Maternity clothes?: Yoga pants and summer dresses have been a life saver.
Food cravings?: For some reason I have been craving sweet and sour meatballs with rice. I will be making this dish sometime this week ( this never happened last week but I plan on making them tonight.)
Sleep?: I have been sleeping great but not enough hours of sleep.
Gender?: BOY!
Exercise?: Back to my weekly walks.
What's been going on? Well, last week I was complaining about heartburn but it seems to have let up just a bit. The other day I wanted radishes so bad, and ended up buying a bunch. I pretty much ate the whole bunch and thought I was writing my own death wish for heartburn but to my surprise I didn't get any! I have felt well the past week. I don't know if it is the nice weather or I am starting the nesting phase but this house is on it's way to being cleaned out, painted, and organized (slowly but surely it is getting done!)
Check out the below link and see how much Little Miss L. has changed since the last time she took this picture with Baby D.

thank you daddy!

This Sunday marks a special day when many of us will be celebrating the men in our lives. What is a father? Many would agree their perception of a father is an array of things - to me, a father is someone who is loving, understanding, a disciplinarian, a great listener, open-minded, imaginative, leads by example, supportive, loyal, and knows how to challenge his family. In just under four short years, my husband has taken on this role not once but twice and in a few short months will be welcoming the challenge again.

I am thankful everyday that my children are surround by a man who allows them to be themselves, who pushes them to do their best and understands that children make mistakes and that is a part of growing up. They are loved by a man who would sacrifice anything for his family to be secure and happy.

"Anyone can be a father, but it takes a real man to be a daddy."

Thank you for being the man you are and continue to be. Happy Father's Day!!

Love,

Little Miss L., Baby D, Little Bean and your HAW
